Richard Gleason is a partner at O’Mara Gleason O’Callaghan. He focuses his practice in litigation arising out of product liability, negligence, employment matters, and fraud.
Rich began his career in the courtroom as a prosecutor in one of the busiest criminal court systems in America. Starting as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney immediately after graduating law school, he has since tried hundreds of motions and trials, including numerous jury trials. He has prosecuted violent felonies and served as an outspoken advocate on behalf of abused women and children while an Assistant State’s Attorney in both the Felony Trial and Domestic Violence Divisions.
Rich uses the skills he learned as a prosecutor to represent victims of fraud, discriminated employees, and the injured in his civil practice. He has taken on employers and insurance companies on behalf of his clients and obtained significant settlements and awards on their behalf. His time with the State’s Attorney’s Office also provides an understanding of the complex issues at play when defending his clients in white-collar criminal investigations and when representing his clients before the SEC, CFTC, and the various exchanges.
Fluent in Spanish, he has handled many cases involving victims and witnesses who speak only Spanish.
Rich earned his law degree from Northern Illinois University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, where he double majored in History and Spanish. He put himself through law school working as a graduate assistant in the NIU Center for Latino and Latin American Studies and was an officer in the NIU College of Law Latino Law Student Association.
Rich has served as a mentor through the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago and Big Brothers Big Sisters Chicago at the Logan Square Boys and Girls Club since 2006.
Rich lives in Evanston with his wife and three children. He is the oldest of four siblings.
